Autumn has well and truly arrived, although it looks as though nobody has informed the weather, at least in the UK. Would it really be too much to ask for a little rain and some brisk mornings?
In any case, as the nights get longer and the weather (at least ostensibly) gets cooler, you’ll likely be looking for something to entertain yourself with. Thankfully, October 2026 is another bumper month for gaming.
We’re not quite in September territory, but there should be plenty of releases to keep you busy, so without further ado, let’s check out all the best games coming out in October!
Gears of War: E-Day (PC, Xbox Series – October 6th)

Here’s a question for you: what do you do when you feel your franchise has accomplished all it set out to achieve and you’re backed into a corner? That’s right – it’s prequel time!
Perhaps that’s a little needlessly cynical, but in any case, Gears of War: E-Day is hoping to revitalise the franchise that practically invented cover-based shooting this month, and it’s bringing back some iconic characters into the bargain as well.
Telling the story of humanity’s first encounter with the terrifying Locust menace, E-Day promises to pack more of the thrills and spills you’ll be familiar with if you’re a Gears fan.
Star Wars: Galactic Racer (PC, PS5, Xbox Series – October 6th)

Also arriving on October 6th is this high-octane racer set in the Star Wars universe (whatever the Star Wars universe actually is these days), so if you’re in the mood for more fast-paced action, you know where to go.
Rather unusually for a racing game in the modern era of gaming, this one’s actually packing a single-player story campaign, so if you don’t feel up to joining your fellow podracers to butt heads, you’ve got options.
We’re looking forward to revisiting the glory days of the likes of Star Wars Episode I: Racer with this one, and who knows? Perhaps it will even surpass that celebrated outing. We can dream, right?
Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival (PC, PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2 – October 8th)

Early October is looking pretty tasty (and varied, too) for new gaming experiences, and the smorgasbord continues with the tongue-twisting action survival horror game that is Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival.
The Hellraiser franchise is something of an odd duck, so it’ll be interesting to see how Saber Interactive has translated its tone of fascinated BDSM-inflected horror to the genre the developer has chosen.
In any case, this will be Pinhead and company’s first real outing in the video game sphere if we’re not counting his appearance in Dead by Daylight, so look forward to chills galore.
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (PC, PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2 – October 15th)

After many years in the wilderness, it looks like Konami and the Castlevania franchise have finally reconciled their differences and are looking to tie the knot once more. Many happy returns to the newly-blooded couple.
This Metroidvania adventure is a direct followup to Castlevania 3 and Curse of Darkness and follows Rose Belmont, the daughter of legendary vampire hunter Trevor, as she seeks to continue the family legacy.
If you’re a Castlevania fan, you’ll already know what that entails: beating up lots of monsters from various different mythologies with your trusty Vampire Killer whip and exploring a massive, non-linear environment.
Final Fantasy Resonance (PC, PS5, Xbox Series, Switch/Switch 2 – October 22nd)

Castlevania isn’t the only series returning to its roots this month, as Square Enix takes a punt on adapting a previously free-to-play adventure into its own single-player excursion.
Final Fantasy Resonance is technically not a new game, you see; it’s actually a remake-slash-reimagining of the first major story arc in Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, which met its end in October 2024 in the west.
If you go in expecting a full-blooded, marquee Final Fantasy game, you might be disappointed, but if the high-budget action stylings of Final Fantasy XVI left you cold, this one might well be for you.
Nintendo Switch Sports Resort (Switch 2 – October 22nd)

The Wii Sports franchise never went away; it just adapted to a new generation of consoles. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort continues the series’ penchant for casual sports fun, adding a bunch of new features along the way.
The game sports (no pun intended) many of the same activities and disciplines offered by 2009’s Wii Sports Resort, including bowling, table tennis, and archery, but adds a few twists of its own as well.
If you’re looking for something easygoing to play with your friends – especially if you’ve got buddies who aren’t particularly au fait with the gaming world – then this one promises to be an effective party-starter.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 (PC, PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2 – October 23rd)

However you slice it, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is shaping up to be the gaming calendar’s tentpole release in October (after all, we’re still a month away from the November GTA 6 reckoning).
The enduring popularity of the Call of Duty franchise is nothing short of remarkable; while some Halo fans are understandably concerned about the series’ new stewardship under Activision, that pedigree can’t be denied.
As for the game itself, well, what do you want us to say at this point? Shoot guns, climb the multiplayer ladder (or fail to, if you’re us), and enjoy Call of Duty’s signature tight gunplay and angry multiplayer comrades.
Phantom Blade Zero (PC, PS5 – October 29th)

It feels like we’ve been waiting for this one to arrive for quite some time. Phantom Blade Zero promises to marry “classic Wuxia storytelling and exhilarating action”, all wrapped up in a lovely Unreal Engine 5 layer.
If you’re thinking that this is yet another Soulslike taking its cues from FromSoftware’s venerated action RPG series, however, think again; it’s much closer to Onimusha or even Devil May Cry.
Expect fast-paced character action in a gloomy, grim wuxia-inspired setting, complete with impressive-looking combos, big, flashy boss fights, and plenty of style.
