The end of summer is usually a fairly significant time in the gaming calendar, as it heralds the arrival of Gamescom, which often brings some pretty big announcements along with its opening ceremony.
This year, as you might expect, is no different on that front, so we’ll be recapping some of the Gamescom opening night’s most significant reveals as part of this latest news rundown.
Of course, there’s plenty of other stuff to take a look at as well, so you know the drill: grab your drink, pull up your chair, and join us as we have a gander at this week’s news!
It looks like The Witcher 4 is arriving in 2028

Bad news if you were expecting CD Projekt Red’s next foray into the Witcher universe to arrive next year, as it looks as though the Polish developer is targeting 2028 for its newest fantasy RPG.
That’s according to the latest update from CDPR (via Eurogamer), in which joint CEO Michal Nowakowski confirms the release window. Bear in mind that this date isn’t set in stone by any means.
Nowakowski also describes The Witcher 4 as CD Projekt Red’s “biggest, boldest, and most ambitious game to date”, so even if the wait is a little longer than we’d like, we’re sure it’ll be worth every second.
There’s a Lego city-builder on the way

The folks behind Cities: Skylines are working on a Lego version of the game, it turns out, although we’re probably quite a way off from release.
The game, which was revealed as part of the Gamescom Opening Night Live ceremony, will see players creating and overseeing their very own Lego metropolis.
Developer Iceflake says Lego Skylines is for anyone who’s “ever wished [their] LEGO city would exist beyond the edge of the table”. We’re sure this one is going to do very well indeed.
The Witcher 3 is getting a remaster and we’ve finally seen Songs of the Past

Witcher fans are eating very well indeed this week, as along with CD Projekt Red’s comments about The Witcher 4 at the start of the week, Gamescom heralded some Witcher 3 news too.
First up, the RPG, which is celebrating its 11th year in 2026, is getting a remastered version that will overhaul the already-excellent visuals and gameplay. It’s coming in September, and it’s free for those who already own the game. Switch 2 owners will be able to pick it up as well.
Not only that, but we also got our first glimpse of upcoming expansion Songs of the Past, which will take Geralt of Rivia into a brand new location and equip him with some new gear as well.
Crimson Desert’s Enhanced update introduces new story moments and more

Were you one of the Crimson Desert players who felt that the game’s narrative was a little underbaked? If so, Crimson Desert Enhanced is for you, and it’s available right now for free.
The major new addition in this update is a slew of extra story scenes that should go a long way towards adding some much-needed context to Kliff et al’s journey, although whether it’ll get you invested in the world of Pywel and its inhabitants remains to be seen.
You can also look forward to new language support, and if you’ve somehow missed out on Crimson Desert’s update cadence so far, all prior updates will be included in Enhanced as well.
Hey, State of Decay 3 isn’t dead after all

Despite what you may have heard, State of Decay 3 lives on, even though its studio and former owner Xbox consciously uncoupled earlier this year.
In a new Xbox Wire blog post this week, developer Undead Labs confirmed that a closed beta is on the way for the open-world zombie survival title. The beta launches later this year ahead of a 2027 release for the game.
Of course, there’s plenty of time between now and 2027, so it’s entirely possible State of Decay 3 gets hit with a delay or even cancellation before then. Let’s hope that’s not the case!
The first Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay details are here
It seems almost criminal that a game with the astronomical levels of hype enjoyed by Grand Theft Auto 6 is only revealing its actual gameplay just a couple of months prior to release, but here we are.
This week saw Rockstar finally pulling back the curtain and showing us what GTA 6, which is set to launch in November, will play like, and…well, it sure looks like a GTA game.
You can look forward to seamless character switching between protagonists Jason and Lucia, as well as the usual driving, shooting, and slew of minigames you’ve come to expect.
EA and Motive’s in-development Iron Man game seems to have leaked

It looks as though EA and Dead Space developer Motive Studios’ upcoming Iron Man game, which has been quiet in recent months, is still in development, and gameplay footage appears to have leaked this week.
The leak came to us via ResetEra user modiz, although as you can probably imagine, it wasn’t long before the footage itself mysteriously disappeared from the thread. We’re sure we can’t possibly guess what happened to it.
As for the game itself, it seems to be taking an open-world approach, which makes sense given the degree of freedom and mobility afforded by playing as everyone’s favourite shellhead.
Star Citizen spinoff Squadron 42 has been delayed

Squadron 42, the upcoming single-player spinoff of long-in-development (and that’s putting it mildly) space sim Star Citizen, has been delayed, developer Cloud Imperium has announced.
The project, which is being stewarded by industry icon Chris Roberts’ brother Erin, will be pushed back in order to ensure that it doesn’t clash with the launch of GTA 6, which is expected to be one of the biggest events the industry has ever seen.
We’re sure that Star Citizen’s long-suffering fans and contributors will understand the reason for this delay given how long they’ve waited for the 1.0 release of the main event.
