    Best Games for September 2024

As the Gamescom dust settles and the gaming world returns to normal (until the major AAA releases of the autumn, anyway), September is often a month to reflect and catch up on the backlog.

That’s certainly not the case for this year, though, because there’s an absolute landslide of great games heading your way in September 2024. You’ll be spoilt for choice if you’re looking for something to play!

Without further ado, let’s take a look at some of the best games coming in September 2024 across all of the major current platforms.

    Table of Contents
    1. The Casting of Frank Stone (PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series – September 3rd)
    2. Ace Attorney Investigations Collection (PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch – September 6th)
    3. Astro Bot (PlayStation 5 – September 6th)
    4. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 (PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series – September 9th)
    5. Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster (PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series – September 19th)
    6. Frostpunk 2 (PC – September 20th)
    7. GreedFall 2: The Dying World (PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series – September 24th)
    8. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom (September 26th)
    9. EA Sports FC 25 (PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch – September 27th)

The Casting of Frank Stone (PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series – September 3rd)

    blank

Expanding the Dead by Daylight universe seems like it might be a bit of a thankless task given how sprawling and interconnected everything is, but that’s exactly what Supermassive Games is trying to do with The Casting of Frank Stone.

As you might expect if you’ve played any of Supermassive’s other games, this is a narrative horror adventure in which your choices have lasting consequences on the plot.

That’s the usual spiel, anyway, but whether or not it turns out to be true remains to be seen. Either way, you’ll likely appreciate this one if you’re big into Dead by Daylight lore.

Ace Attorney Investigations Collection (PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch – September 6th)

    blank

Now here’s a re-release we thought would never happen. Ace Attorney Investigations Collection brings together the two Miles Edgeworth-focused adventure games in the series, including a first-time Western release for the second.

As Edgeworth, you must navigate the usual labyrinth of conspiracies and outlandish characters, getting to the truth via your relentless persistence and with the aid of your assistant, Detective Gumshoe (yes, really).

If everyone buys this one, we can convince Capcom that the Ace Attorney series is one worth hanging on to, so please go out and pick it up if you’ve got any interest whatsoever in adventure game-style visual novels.

    Astro Bot (PlayStation 5 – September 6th)

    blank

This really is another case of “please buy this one so we can show Sony what we really want when it comes to new games”.

Astro Bot is an old-school mascot platformer with shades of Super Mario Galaxy, and it also serves as another celebration of PlayStation’s history akin to the PS5 pack-in game Astro’s Playroom.

What’s more, this is an entirely single-player-focused adventure with no tacked-on multiplayer, no microtransactions, and no chaff, so pick it up if you’re looking for simple, old-school fun this autumn.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 (PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series – September 9th)

    blank

And now for something completely different. Where Astro Bot is fun, colourful, and full of joy, Space Marine 2 is portentous, grandiose, and cinematic.

You’ll once again play as Captain Demetrian Titus, although he’s not a captain anymore; shorn of his status after being accused of heresy, Titus must prove himself to the Ultramarines by combating a Tyranid invasion.

If you’re into Warhammer lore, you’ll probably get a lot from this one, but even if you’re not, who doesn’t want to hack and slash (and shoot!) their way through thousands upon thousands of aliens?

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster (PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series – September 19th)

    blank

A little bit of breathing room follows the release of Space Marine 2, but you won’t have too long to recover, because Capcom’s Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster arrives on September 19th.

A full visual overhaul, gameplay improvements, and much-needed quality-of-life tweaks are all being introduced as part of this remaster, which is edging close to a remake in terms of quality.

If you played Dead Rising but found it a little too spiky and off-putting for your tastes, then this remaster is probably where you’ll want to pitch your zombie-infested tent.

    Frostpunk 2 (PC – September 20th)

    blank

The first Frostpunk was an unrelenting exercise in despair, moral quandaries, and the difficulties of managing a post-apocalyptic society beset by constant freezing cold on all sides. Yay!

Obviously, you can expect more of the same from Frostpunk 2, albeit expanded with new mechanics, new decisions to make, and a new visual coat of paint to make things even prettier.

While Frostpunk 2 will be launching on Steam to begin with, we’d be very surprised indeed if we didn’t see a console release for this one at some point in the future.

GreedFall 2: The Dying World (PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series – September 24th)

    blank

Spiders’ games tend to be very unique, very creaky affairs with solid writing and interesting gameplay mechanics, even if they’re not always the most polished games in the world.

GreedFall 2 promises to continue that legacy. September 24th’s release is an Early Access launch, so things will perhaps be even jankier than usual for a little while.

Still, if you want to get in on the ground floor for an epic tale of political intrigue in a fantasy land, then GreedFall 2’s Early Access release is the place to go.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom (September 26th)

    blank

Echoes of Wisdom is the first mainline Zelda game in which the princess herself serves as the principal protagonist (we don’t talk about the CD-i games).

This one promises to mesh the top-down viewpoint of the original Zelda and A Link to the Past with Tears of the Kingdom’s experimentation, creating a very unique-looking adventure indeed.

If you love old Zelda but you wish it was a bit less rigid in terms of its structure, then you should be very excited indeed about Echoes of Wisdom, because that’s exactly what it’s promising.

EA Sports FC 25 (PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch – September 27th)

    blank

What more can we write about EA Sports FC 25 that hasn’t already been written? You already know if you’re going to be picking this one up on launch day, right?

As the latest iteration in the EA Sports FC (once known as FIFA) franchise, this one will boast all the latest players, club licenses, and tournaments, so if you’re looking for an authentic football experience, look no further.

Of course, you can’t really look any further given that EA Sports FC doesn’t have any meaningful rivals at the moment, so even if you’re not a fan of this series, you’re kind of stuck with it if you want a football sim.
