Three criminals in Los Santos
Grand Theft Auto V tells a story about three criminals whose lives collide in Los Santos: a young street hustler, a retired bank robber and a volatile criminal. Rockstar’s store description presents the trio as drawn into dangerous heists and conflicts with the criminal underworld, the government and the entertainment business. Their separate storylines give the single-player game several viewpoints on the same city and its escalating problems.
The protagonists can be switched between during the story, allowing the player to follow their individual missions and see how their plans connect. Los Santos and its surrounding region provide the open-world setting for those stories. The game combines narrative missions with activities across the city, but the central thread remains the characters’ criminal schemes and the risks they take to survive. Rockstar describes the story as fictional and its setting as a ruthless city where the three cannot fully trust one another.
Story Mode and GTA Online
The single-player campaign is separate from GTA Online. Story Mode follows the three protagonists and their heists, while GTA Online is described by Rockstar as a dynamic online universe for up to 30 players. In Online, players can build a criminal career, complete co-operative heists, race, take part in adversary modes or spend time in social spaces. Rockstar also describes the online world as continually evolving, with content and updates added over time.
A purchase of the PC version includes both GTAV Enhanced and GTAV Legacy, according to Rockstar’s store page. The publisher says Legacy is included for hardware that does not meet the Enhanced version’s minimum requirements. PC owners can migrate Story Mode progress and GTA Online characters and progression from the older PC version to Enhanced once. Because this migration is a one-time action, players should read Rockstar’s current instructions before transferring an account.
Editions and PC purchase
The US Rockstar Store lists a $29.99 PC purchase that includes GTAV Enhanced, GTAV Legacy and Grand Theft Auto Online. This is the list price shown by Rockstar rather than a temporary sale price. Other regions and platforms may have different products or pricing, so the store page for a player’s own country is the authoritative place to check before purchase. The price in this guide should not be read as a universal console price.
The store highlights improvements in Enhanced, including visual options, faster loading and 3D audio support, along with additional content for GTA Online. Exact performance depends on compatible hardware and settings. Rockstar also publishes PC system requirements and platform-specific information, so buyers should check those details rather than assuming that every PC supports the same features. The package contains Story Mode and Online, but online services, account requirements and internet access are subject to Rockstar’s current terms.
Release history and updates
Rockstar’s release-dates article records the original console launch on 17 September 2013, followed by the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One release in November 2014 and the PC release on 14 April 2015. Those dates describe different platform launches, not separate games. The release history helps explain why the title now spans several hardware generations and why current editions use names such as Enhanced and Legacy.
The game has continued to receive platform-specific support. Rockstar’s customer-support page maintains Title Update 1.70 notes for PlayStation, Xbox and PC versions. The notes contain changes and fixes over time, so players troubleshooting a particular issue should use the entry for their platform and version. Since the game and online service evolve, a current support article is more reliable for compatibility than a launch-era specification.
Age rating and choosing a version
The ESRB rates Grand Theft Auto V Mature 17+ and lists descriptors for blood and gore, intense violence, mature humor, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content and drug and alcohol use. The full board listing includes a detailed content summary. Families should review that entry directly because the short rating label does not capture every subject or scene.
Players interested in the authored story can begin with Story Mode; those looking for ongoing multiplayer activities can enter GTA Online separately. On PC, the official purchase currently includes Enhanced and Legacy, and the Rockstar Store lists the US price used here. The page’s game details, release history and update notes are sourced from Rockstar pages opened for this guide.
