A Horizon Festival in Japan

Forza Horizon 6 takes the open-world racing series to Japan. Playground Games launched the Xbox Series X|S and PC versions on 19 May 2026, after Premium Edition early access began on 15 May. The PS5 version is not merely “later this year”: the publisher’s October announcement schedules its Standard and Deluxe Editions for 26 January 2027, with Premium early access five days earlier. That updated date is important for anyone deciding which platform to buy the game on.

The official store describes a large landscape with rural and urban areas, varied biomes and a dense Tokyo City. The car collection is listed at more than 550 real-world vehicles. This mix makes the game part driving playground and part open-world tour: players can follow festival events, explore roads and build a collection. The central idea is still approachable—drive, discover, race and progress—but the map gives players room to set their own pace.

From tourist to Festival racer

The official Xbox description says the player begins as a tourist and works towards joining the Horizon Festival as a rookie driver. Its listing describes a Horizon Invitational, a progression through faster cars, and a Valley Estate that can be developed as part of the journey. The game also includes homes and garages for displaying cars, giving collectors a reason to explore as well as compete.

Racing is not the only activity in the world. The store describes Car Meets, EventLab and Horizon CoLab, alongside festival events and Touge Battles. It also says the game can be played solo or with friends online. These options make it possible to treat the map as a place to cruise, customise and create events, not only as a menu of races. Exact online features and event availability can evolve with updates.

Xbox, PC and the delayed PS5 date

Xbox Series X|S and PC players can play the released version now. The official Forza announcement says PC is available through the Microsoft Store and Steam. It also confirmed Xbox Game Pass access for eligible members at launch, but subscriptions and cloud access depend on the plan and platform. Check the current store listing before purchase, especially if you want to use a subscription rather than own a separate copy.

Playground Games later confirmed PS5 pre-orders and a January 2027 date. The official announcement schedules the PS5 Premium Edition for early access from 21 January and Standard and Deluxe for 26 January. OpenCritic lists the game across PC, Xbox Series X|S and PS5, but its aggregate page does not override the publisher’s platform schedule. Use Playground’s latest announcement for the actual PS5 date.

Editions, prices and optional content

The US Xbox Store lists Standard at $69.99, Deluxe at $99.99 and Premium at $119.99. Deluxe adds the Car Pass and Welcome Pack; Premium includes further content such as VIP, expansions, car packs and early access. The Premium bundle is aimed at players who want the announced add-ons, while Standard gives access to the base game. Store prices can change, and subscription access is different from owning an edition.

The ESRB rates Forza Horizon 6 E for Everyone with Mild Lyrics; Users Interact and In-Game Purchases are also listed. OpenCritic showed a 91/100 top critic average from 167 critic reviews when checked on 5 November 2026. The aggregate is a snapshot that may move as reviews are added. Neither rating nor score replaces checking the exact edition, platform requirements and online terms displayed by the store where you plan to play.

A good fit for driving and collecting

Forza Horizon 6 is designed for players who want a flexible racing game rather than a strict simulation career. The world, vehicle collection and festival structure support both short sessions and longer plans to complete events or improve a garage. Solo play is available, while online features give friends ways to drive and create together. The Xbox store lists controller support, so players can start with a gamepad; check the platform store for current hardware requirements.

If you are waiting for PlayStation, use 26 January 2027 as the current standard-release date rather than the earlier “later this year” wording. For Xbox and PC, the game is already available. Check the publisher’s news feed for later platform or content changes, since the PS5 release schedule and post-launch expansions are official plans that could be revised.
