Summer Game Fest time is officially upon us, and you know what that means: game announcements galore. This week certainly hasn’t disappointed us on that front!
This week alone, we were treated to the twin titanic spectacle of the Summer Game Fest show and the Xbox presentation, and that’s in addition to plenty of smaller indie shows to keep us busy.
As such, we’ve got plenty of stuff that you’re going to love, so here, without further ado, is our rundown of the week in gaming news!
A new God of War game is coming

The Sony State of Play show kicked things off this week, and during that show, Sony announced a brand new game that will serve as a followup to Kratos’ adventures in Nordic lands.
God of War Laufey is more than just a spinoff; it’s the next official game in the series, and it’ll star Kratos’ wife and Atreus’ mother as she navigates the underworld following her untimely death.
Expect lots of acrobatic, aerial combat, as well as a heartfelt story and the chance to meet some new gods from across different pantheons rather than just the Norse legends.
The first wave of Xbox Game Pass games for June has been revealed

We’ll have more Xbox news later on in this roundup, but for now, let’s focus on Xbox announcing the first wave of games coming to the Xbox Game Pass service in June.
It’s perhaps not a haul packed with unqualified hits, but there should still be plenty for you to sink your teeth into, including survival game Solarpunk and boxing sim Undisputed.
Still, the real Xbox bonanza is yet to come, and there’s so much that we’ll probably need to break it into several entries across this list!
007 First Light is doing pretty well sales-wise

IO Interactive has revealed that spy adventure 007 First Light is doing much better than the developer expected it to, as sales are tracking beyond expectations.
CEO Hakan Abrak this week told an IGN interviewer that the game, which is the latest from the folks behind the Hitman series, has managed to cross six million sales since launching in late May.
Of course, as IGN notes in the article we’ve linked above, whether 007 First Light manages to make a profit for IO Interactive remains to be seen. Still, there’s cause for celebration today, at least.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation closes out the remake trilogy next year
The first of our huge Summer Game Fest reveals this week was none other than Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the long-awaited third part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy.
Closing out the saga next year, the game will introduce Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine as playable characters, and it’ll presumably cover the rest of the crew’s journey from the original game.
The debut trailer showed off an impressive-looking system by which players can dive off the deck of the Highwind airship to seamlessly explore an open world.
Resident Evil: Code Veronica is getting a remake

Another game due to arrive next year is Resident Evil Veronica, which appears to be a remake of highly-regarded spinoff Resident Evil: Code Veronica.
Boldly, the remake will adopt Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village’s default first-person view, although whether you will be able to switch to a third-person view remains to be seen.
We’ll likely get more information about this one as we near release, so make sure to keep an eye out for more news over the next few months.
There’s a Star Trek horror game in the works

Unexpectedly, Bloober Team revealed yet another horror project during the Summer Game Fest frenzy, and it’s a Star Trek title by the name of Star Trek: Shadow Frontier.
You’ll have to forgive us, as our Star Trek knowledge isn’t exactly robust, but this one is a psychological horror experience that follows a character first introduced in 80s sensation Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Lest you fear this one will be some kind of multiplayer experiment like Bloober Team’s other horror game announced during these shows, Saw: Genesis, you needn’t. It’s a single-player game.
Senua is trying something new for its series

We’re onto the Xbox showcase now, and we’ve got three major announcements for you, the first of which is a brand new game in Ninja Theory’s Senua series.
Simply called Senua, Ninja Theory is touting this one as a much more fully-rounded action-adventure experience rather than the more linear story-driven gameplay offered by the previous two entries.
That means you can hopefully expect a more fleshed-out combat system, as well as traversal, puzzle-solving, and secret-hunting. Of course, we doubt the game will have lost any of its unsettling, eerie edge as a result of the transition.
Spyro: A Realm Beyond revives the purple dragon

After bringing back Spyro for the nostalgic remaster collection Spyro Reignited Trilogy, developer Toys for Bob is now trying its hand at a fully-fledged Spyro adventure.
Spyro: A Realm Beyond is – say it with us – coming in 2027, but we did get a brief glimpse of gameplay during its cinematic trailer, and it looks gorgeous, to say the least.
Hopefully, Spyro’s ground antics will be just as thrilling as the free flight we got to see in the debut trailer, but we’ll likely get more info in the coming months.
Hooray! Persona 6 is finally official
Our last news item of the roundup is one that, if you’re anything like us, you’ve been waiting for now for quite some time. That’s right: Atlus has finally announced Persona 6.
We didn’t get much more than a brief teaser trailer that introduced what appears to be a more grounded art style for the game, as well as the predominant colour scheme, which is, as you probably expected, green.
Sadly, we’ve got no release date or even a broad window for this one yet, so let’s hope Atlus doesn’t hold out on us for too long on that front.
