Despite being almost halfway through the year, there are still a number of XBOX One games we should await the release of with some degree of glee and expectation. Here are five to get you going.
The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt
As soon as next week we will see the release of The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt (scheduled for release 19 May 2015). If you’ve been following the saga so far, you may already be aware that Geralt of Rivia’s epic story is not yet complete, oh no, not by a long shot. The previous two games featuring the Witcher may well have been epic in their own right, but the White Wolf is still in search of the truth to his mysterious past, so the show must go on, right? This third game in the series is huge, so there may perhaps be answers. The world of Geralt is filled with monsters, politicians (could these two groups not have been amalgamated?), and the generally downtrodden of the human race, and players will be allowed to explore every square inch of its massive, open-world expanse. Owing to the game’s player-choice system, you’ll get to experience tough decision-making, but the world around you will also change, depending on your actions throughout. Cool.
Lego Jurassic World
Ooh, Lego! Ooh, dinosaurs! If you agree with my last two sentences, then you’ll anticipate with delight the imminent release of Lego Jurassic World. Brought to you by Warner Bros., you’ll be able to break down and build up Lego blocks to solve various puzzles and, get this, re-enact scenes from all four Jurassic Park movies – in the American rather than the strictly literal sense, ‘awesome’. What’s more (oh, yes), the game challenges you to collect Amber Lego blocks. Do this, and you’ll have the joy of taking control of the dinosaurs – from manipulating a massive triceratops to controlling a T-Rex during the jeep-chase scene; hell, do I need to say any more than that you can even drive a vehicle as a Raptor? I’m done – pre-order now (it’s coming in June, so not long to wait).
Mad Max
Mad Max. September 2015. For many of you, that may suffice as far as information is concerned. If you need a bit more detail, however, how does the description, ‘desolate post-apocalyptic hell-hole’ take you? Oh, and add in some lethal bandits. See, now we’ve got your interest piqued. If you needed that extra detail, you’re clearly not familiar with Mad Max, so go off and do some of your own research and then come back. Once you’re up to speed, prepare to be suitably excited about third person action moments, vehicular combat, a lack of Mel Gibson… Bring it on.
Halo 5: Guardians
Halo on the XBOX One; coming to a console near you (if you own the aforementioned XBOX One, anyway) on 27 October 2015, is Halo 5: Guardians. Not a lot is known of the actual content of this game, but you’ve got to admit it’s intriguing. Master Chief’s next steps? Agent Locke? We may hear more as the big day approaches, but fans of the franchise should be alert.
Rock Band 4
Something completely different to finish: if you already own a set of plastic drums, and you like to adopt an air of air guitar adeptness, then look out for Rock Band 4. Your existing kit will be compatible with the new release, and in addition all of the songs you bought for previous versions will also work in Rock Band 4. Result. In actual fact, that means that there’s an existing base of around 2000 songs to be featured, with more sure to be added. There are ambitions aims for this latest release from makers Harmonix, and by the end of this year, all will be revealed.
