The Game Awards, arguably the most important event on the gaming calendar (and pretty much indisputably one of them), has come and gone, and as you can imagine, there are plenty of announcements to sift through.
We don’t intend to summarise the entire event here; instead, we’ll pick a few of the biggest reveals for our roundup, and we’ll take a look at what’s been happening elsewhere as well.
With that said, then, let’s get started! Here’s everything that’s happened this week in terms of the gaming industry that we think you need to know about.
Tekken’s longtime producer is leaving Bandai Namco

This week, Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada announced that he’s leaving Bandai Namco after over 30 years with the studio, and thus leaving the Tekken franchise in the hands of its development team as well.
Harada says he’s already been ceding responsibilities to that team over the past few years, which means that while his absence will certainly be felt, it shouldn’t derail Tekken too much.
We don’t know what’s next for Harada yet, but he says he’ll announce what he’s going to do after leaving Bandai Namco soon, so keep your eyes peeled!
The Perfect Dark reboot guys are starting a new studio

If you’re sad about the cancellation of Microsoft’s Perfect Dark reboot, then you may be able to take some solace in the fact that two of its leads have started up a new studio under 2K.
We don’t yet know what the new studio is, nor do we know what it’s working on, but we do know that a deal between 2K’s parent company Take-Two and Microsoft to save Perfect Dark fell through, so it probably isn’t that.
Could we be getting a sort of legally distinct reimagining of the franchise, or is the new studio working on something entirely different? We’ll have to wait to find out!
Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag is probably getting a remake of some kind

Eagle-eyed (pun very much intended) Assassin’s Creed social media news account The Hidden One spotted a rather telling PEGI listing this week, suggesting that a remake of most people’s favourite Assassin’s Creed game (scientifically, of course) is probably on the cards.
The listing is for Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced, and while it doesn’t really give much else away, the title alone feels like pretty conclusive evidence to us.
Is it a remake or a remaster? We don’t know yet, but it’s probably going to be announced sooner rather than later.
Call of Duty is switching up its strategy

For the last few years, Call of Duty has alternated between successive Modern Warfare and Black Ops releases, but according to Activision, that’s not going to be the case going forward.
The publisher says that it intends to stop doing “back-to-back releases of Modern Warfare or Black Ops games” in order to ensure that the “innovation” the franchise brings is “meaningful, not incremental”.
We don’t know what Activision intends to replace these releases with, but it will be nice to see the pattern of the last four years or so change a little.
The UK Prime Minister has weighed in on Rockstar’s union-related firings

It turns out that Rockstar’s firing of a handful of employees, which is allegedly connected to those employees being involved in union activity, has attracted the attention of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Starmer called the firings “deeply concerning”, reaffirming that “every worker has the right to join a trade union” and that his party is “determined to strengthen workers’ rights”.
Whether or not you agree with Starmer’s assessment of the Labour Party’s recent record on union issues, it’s still encouraging to know that he’s concerned by Rockstar’s apparently flagrant disregard for employee organisation.
The PlayStation Plus games for December have been announced

Sony revealed which games are coming to the PlayStation Plus catalogue this week, and there’s plenty on offer for fans of all kinds of games.
If you’re an Extra or Premium subscriber, then you can look forward to the likes of Skate Story, Granblue Fantasy: Relink, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage joining the service on December 16th (although Skate Story is available now).
Premium players, meanwhile, can enjoy PS2 fighter Soulcalibur 3, which is a game well worth revisiting.
Two new Tomb Raider games are coming

In the first of our Game Awards roundup stories, two new Tomb Raider games were revealed during the show, namely new game Catalyst and remake Legacy of Atlantis.
The first is due in 2027, and we didn’t get to see much more than a pre-rendered trailer for it, although Lara looks like she’s getting back to her old self, which is nice.
Legacy of Atlantis, meanwhile, is arriving in 2026, and it looks like it’ll be the halfway point between Lara’s classic adventures and the newer reboot trilogy in terms of gameplay.
Mega Man is getting a new game, but it’s a while away

Do you miss the days of side-scrolling Mega Man adventures? If you do, then you’ll be pleased to know that a new one, Dual Override, was announced at the Game Awards, but it’s going to take a while to release.
The game, which is arriving in 2027, will see the Blue Bomber once again take on a variety of side-scrolling stages full of hazards and classic franchise enemies.
It’s a shame we’re going to have to wait so long for it, but we’re honestly still excited to see what Capcom comes up with for this one.
Total War: Warhammer 40k is a reality

Yep, that’s right: after years of grand strategy games set in the Warhammer fantasy universe, we’re now getting one that’s set in the grim darkness of the far future.
Total War: Warhammer 40k was announced during the Game Awards, and it’ll bring the series’ signature blend of large-scale battles and strategic planning to the Warhammer 40k world.
Expect plenty of spaceships the size of cities, as well as large-scale ground battles involving Space Marines, Orks, Aeldari, and other iconic 40k factions.
