One very big gaming release looms over the month of June this year. That’s right: we are, of course, talking about the Gex Trilogy re-release, which lands in the middle of the month.
Apparently, Nintendo is also planning to release a new console in June, and there are some who are claiming this is the biggest release of the period. We’re still rooting for Gex, but that’s just us.
At any rate, let’s take a look at some of the biggest and most exciting releases heading your way this month!
Nintendo Switch 2 – June 5th

It’s worth kicking off with the aforementioned Nintendo Switch 2, because although it’s not technically a game, the release of an entirely new system is obviously noteworthy.
The Switch 2 will launch with a range of games, many of which have already been released on other systems. These include Cyberpunk 2077, Civilization VII, and Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade.
As for the console itself, it’s essentially a more beefed-up and powerful Switch, complete with a sharper screen (than the base model, at least) and a number of other improvements.
Mario Kart World (Nintendo Switch 2 – June 5th)

Launching alongside the Switch 2 is Mario Kart World, the first new Mario Kart game in around eleven years (since Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was a souped-up re-release of the Wii U’s Mario Kart 8).
The game will allow you to drive from course to course in a semi-open-world environment for the first time in series history, and it’ll come complete with a number of other improvements and changes, too.
Mario Kart World is pretty much guaranteed to become a monster hit for Nintendo if previous entries in the series are anything to go by, so get in on the ground floor with this one.
Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom (Nintendo Switch 2 – June 5th)

We promise not to harp on the Switch 2 for too long, but it’ll definitely be worth picking up the new machine’s versions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
While both games are, of course, breathtakingly beautiful on Switch (and excellent experiences to boot), they’ll receive a number of technical improvements on the Switch 2.
These include increased frame rates and smoother visuals, so you can experience the world of Hyrule as you’ve never seen it before.
Dune: Awakening (PC – June 10th)

Having been delayed from its original May release date, Dune: Awakening is very nearly ready to wow you (or at least we hope it will!).
Only the PC release is slated for June, with PS5 and Xbox Series versions also on the way, although we don’t know when those will be coming yet.
When it arrives, Dune: Awakening will bring a Conan Exiles-style survival experience set on the desert planet of Arrakis, complete with all of the Dune iconography you know and love.
MindsEye (PC, PS5, Xbox Series – June 10th)

This is a very strange one indeed. Developed by Build a Rocket Boy, a studio headed by ex-GTA producer Leslie Benzies, MindsEye is a cinematic action-adventure game akin to the likes of Mafia.
If that was all it was, then it wouldn’t be a particularly odd prospect, but Build a Rocket Boy has pledged to continue supporting MindsEye with studio-generated extras for some time to come.
Not only that, but the game will also support user creation tools, allowing players to make their own adventures within the MindsEye setting. It’s all very ambitious, but whether or not it’ll work is another matter.
The Alters (PC, PS5, Xbox Series – June 13th)

Here’s another game that’s been through the wringer a little when it comes to delays. First announced in 2022, The Alters is finally arriving in June, having been pushed back multiple times.
It’s an odd adventure game in which main character Jan must create copies of himself in order to help him run the base in which he must live after being stranded on a hostile world.
He must also venture forth beyond the base’s walls in order to scavenge for resources and explore the inhospitable world on which he finds himself. 11 bit’s game promises to be strange, but we’re all for strange here.
Gex Trilogy (PC, PS5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch – June 16th)

Well, we made a rod for our own backs by mentioning this one in the intro, didn’t we? Now we have to include it as part of the list. It’s the law or something.
As you might imagine from the name, Gex Trilogy collects the first three Gex games, so you’ll be getting the original 2D platformer and its two 3D followups.
If we’re being completely real, the Gex games probably haven’t aged tremendously well, but hey – this is a relic of the past, and it should be preserved as such.
FBC: Firebreak (PC, PS5, Xbox Series – June 17th)

Remedy’s multiplayer Control spinoff promises to be another profoundly weird experience when it arrives later this month. Is there something about June that inspires strange releases?
In any case, FBC: Firebreak sees you and your teammates playing as the titular Firebreak unit, who must venture into Control’s Oldest House in order to fight off another Hiss invasion.
It’s a multiplayer game, but it doesn’t have many of the usual live-service elements you might expect; you won’t find a battle pass here, and you won’t find daily login rewards or anything similar either.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach (PS5 – June 26th)

The release of a new Hideo Kojima game is pretty much always cause for comment, even if you’re not a fan of his work, and we’re lucky enough to be getting one this month.
Death Stranding 2 continues the story started in the original game, which will be six years old by the time the sequel launches.
You’ll once again be playing as protagonist Sam Porter-Bridges as he treks across a post-apocalyptic landscape, delivering packages and discovering a story that promises to be completely insane.
