Role-playing games are some of the most popular in the gaming world, especially the ones which support online play and real-time play. One game that lets players act out their fantasies of being a hero online is Diablo 4. One of Blizzards’ games, it ticks all the boxes. The graphics are some of the best around and the immersive storylines have had us all gripped. But can you play it cross platform?

    What is Diablo 4?

As you have probably guessed by the name, there have been 3 other Diablo games in the series, as well as some expansion packs and spin-off games. With each game, the fanbase has grown bigger and bigger.

One thing fans absolutely love about the Diablo games is the in-depth storyline, which tells us why there is so much unrest in the game’s fantasy world. According to legend Heaven and Hell were constantly engaged in vicious cutthroat battles. Lilith and Inarius fled and created a new world, called Sanctuary which was free from all the fighting and warring. Lilith then went one step further and created her own race called the Nephalem, who ultimately became the human race. Lilith goes to some pretty extreme lengths to protect her new population, and this leads her to being exiled to the Abyss. Sanctuary becomes the new battleground for Heaven and Hell.

In Diablo 4, Lilith is back! She is trying to lesser evil in an attempt to finally over topple the ultimate baddie, the perfectly named ‘Prime Evil’. As a player, you have to stop her by defeating an increasingly difficult set of monsters and evil beings to save the human race.

    How do You Play?

Diablo is an online-only game, set in a surprisingly dark fantasy world. To start, you have to create your own hero character with an almost overwhelming choice of edits and details. Blizzard reckons there are so many choices there are over three trillion possibilities, which is pretty cool if you ask us. This makes it feel like you can really make the character your own and put your stamp on the gameplay.

In Diablo 4 there are five character classes to choose from, each with their own skills and abilities. The first is the Druid, who can shapeshift as different animals and use their skills to beat their opponent. The Rouge is an agile fighter and can even use shadow magic to thwart her enemies. If you like your characters, the Barbarian is the one for you. The Necromancer can summon the dead to do their bidding. And finally, the sorcerer can harness the natural elements to do what he needs to defeat his foes. These characters are constantly improved as you make your way through the game.

As well as the good guys, there are obviously the bad guys. In Diablo 4, you will meet distinct types of evil forces on your journey. There are over 120 Dungeons, all overrun with monsters and precious loot. Strongholds are places teeming with evil creatures, but these can be defeated and made part of the Sanctuary. PvP is where you can battle other players. You have to label yourself as ‘hostile’ and then battle other plays. If you win, you can steal all their precious loot. If you lose, well, you lose. The big daddies of Diablo are the Big Bosses. These take place in open worlds and are multi-layered. You can team up with up to 12 players to smash these monsters to pieces. And if you win, you get the BEST prizes!

    Is Diablo 4 Cross Platform?

Diablo 4 has been a hit since it was first released earlier this year, and 350,000 players are logging on to play every day. But can these players play cross platform? Yes, they are! This is a massive improvement from Diabolo 3 which wasn’t cross platform.

The game has always been available on all platforms, and regardless of which you are on you have the same great level of gameplay. So you can team up with friends and other players, you just have to be friends on Battle.net. The only platform that doesn’t support Diablo 4 is Nintendo Switch, and Blizzard haven’t released any plans to change this.

What about Diablo 4 and the other Diablo games?

No, if you are playing on Diablo 4, you can only play against players playing Diablo 4. There have been quite a few games in the Diablo series, with the main Diablo games but also a few spin-offs. Sadly, these are all individual games that can’t be mixed.

This is because when you play a Diablo game, you are following a basic story narrative. This means the games can’t ever really be compatible as it’s one long storyline, and each new game is the next installment, just like with a sequel film in a franchise.

    How Much Does It Cost?

One of the beautiful things about Diablo 4 is that it can cost what you want it to, pretty cool no? The game has a basic price tag which varies depending on the platform. You can then buy enhanced editions which come with extra packages. These deluxe various of the game give the player extra ways to edit their characters, unlocked areas, and other extra goodies. You can also buy single extras as you want them in the game, rather than as a larger package.

One of our favorite dark fantasy games, Diablo 4 is one of the best things to come out of this year.

We love that it is now an online game and you can team up with other players to battle the evil creatures. And the fact that it’s cross platform? Even better!
